Giving LoL another shot

I’ve been gratiously asked to indulge League of Legends within my already scarce gaming habits. It has come from a colleague that looks mature and emotionally stable enough to actually be onto something here…

Since the DotA2 servers on Steam are filled with russian alphabet users who deem themselves demigods with no responsability or accountability towards their teammates, I’ve decided that IF  I get some free time on my hands this weekend, I’ll give the game another shot. Yes, I already have an old account and an almost decent idea what to do with some of the said heroes. But if I denounce DotA2 for it or not, that’ll be a different story…

League of Legends

More information to follow next week, as I have promissed to give this a fair shot :)

Why do I enjoy Guild Wars 2 more than WoW? (part 2)

For those of you who didn’t know, Guild Wars 2 is an MMORPG released by NC Soft and ArenaNet. I’ve been playing it for a while now and I can say that this game is in a league of its own. And dare I say, way better than World of Warcraft. And before you blow me to the nether realms into oblivion and beyond, let’s have a look at the facts, shall we?

Part 2 - Realism

-> collision modules exist

In WoW, if you’re a melee class fighting a caster and you’ve got no CC’s left, what do you do? You walk straight up through your opponent to get behind him. Thus nullifying his cast. How fair does that sound? Or casting something – let’s say “fear” for the sake of it – on the target on the other side of the wall, around the corner or on the floor above you? How about charging or being feared into falling either off the map or getting stuck in it?

Well, Guild Wars has none of that. You run up in your enemy, you get stuck in him. It’s like fighting a real person – you can’t just run through your opponent because this isn’t Mario and the BooBoo Castle… If you want to get behind, you need to go around or force his turn. It might not sound all that much initially, but having a working and rational collision module changes fights and engagements completely.

Why do I enjoy Guild Wars 2 more than WoW – MoP ?

For those of you who didn’t know, Guild Wars 2 is an MMORPG released by NC Soft and ArenaNet. I’ve been playing it for a while now and I can say that this game is in a league of its own. And dare I say, way better than World of Warcraft. And before you blow me to the nether realms into oblivion and beyond, let’s have a look at the facts, shall we?

Part 1 – The Graphics engine

My girlfriend likes me playing WoW because she enjoys the graphics. Then when she first caught me playing Guild Wars 2 she said – and I quote:

“WoW has nice graphics, but this is simply beautiful!”

To round it up about the graphics engine and not bore you half to death, it’s fancy and powerful. And it manages to put out very realistic figures throughout the game, be it character models, dungeons, swamps, glorious background or underwater environments. Because yes, there’s more than crabs, sharks and murlocs lurking in the MMO waters. Just have a look at these here pictures below and you’ll see why they speak for themselves…
